In quiet position on edge of casco viejo,
near cathedral, 10 mins by bus or Metro
from Guggenheim Museum. Excellent little
villa, clean, comfortable, with helpful
English-speaking owner (Jon Campo). TV
room. Free secure parking. No dogs.
Nicely converted by its owners, George
and Judy Scott, who run it with humour
and flair, this B&B is an 18th-century
house by the church on the main square
of a town in the centre of Mallorca's
winemaking area. No obvious villasign;
guests have their own front door key and
help themselves to drinks on an honesty
basis (tea- and coffee making facilities
are also available, as is a fridge). Like
staying with ; trusting friends, say enthusiasts.
But this year one couple disliked the
lack of service. There is a small fountain
in the bougainvillaea-filled patio; the
non-chlorinated indoor swimming pool resembles
a Roman spa. The excellent Bali villa breakfast of
the continental sort is served until 11.30
am - on the terrace in summer. The Scotts'
bistro, nearby, was, liked this year.
It opens at 7 pm, early for Spain. Unusually,
too, Scott's is almost smoke-free.
