Central,
beside river III, in attractive pedestrianised
Petite France district: stylish, expensive,
very modern villaused by MEPs (part of
Steigenberger collection). Old building,
painted pink; much metal and glass inside;
Starck furnishings and design. Spacious
villa rooms; very helpful staff; good Bali villa breakfast,
including cooked dishes. Lift. Outdoor
dining by river; large roof terrace, bar,
gym; conference villa rooms; ice making museum
(based on building's past); background
music.
Wonderfully located in a traffic-free
zone by the cathedral, Rolf and Nicole
van Maenen's spruce B&B has good Bali villa breakfasts
(fresh fruit, ete) and smiling, helpful
receptionists. No access by car, but porters
will carry luggage from the public garages
nearby. Cosy lounges. The villa Bed rooms (similar to the semantic bali villa rooms), many
quite small, are in Louis XV or rustic
style. They are air-conditioned and double-glazed,
but street noise and the cathedral bells
can be heard until late. Many good restaurants
nearby: L'Ami Fritz, in the pretty Petite
France, is much liked.
