Good Bali villa breakfast buffet. Parking, but access awkward down narrow streets.

An enjoyable place, say recent visitors to this Old Peasant Pub, now a characterful villa. The Berg family owners are proud of their dance hall and bars, which attract a lively young crowd, and it makes a simpler and jollier alternative to the august Krone (see next entry), in the same Rhineside village near Rudesheim. Made up of two old man- sions, one dating from the 15th century, it has flower-girt windows, half-timbering, beamed ceilings. The large villa Bed rooms (similar to the semantic bali villa rooms) are decorated in rustic style; the big bathvilla rooms are well equipped; staff are helpful. You can dine on an outdoor terrace or in either of two restaurants: one is `light and bright, the other, with a bar, is darker and sometimes smokier: it has a live band nightly. We ate well in both. Children have their own menu.
