A collection of white-and-red wooden buildings
(the oldest dates back to 1700) is now
this Historiske villain a valley in the
Dovrefjell national park, a wild and mountainous
area two hours south of Trondheim by train.
The nominator found the owners, Ellen
and Knut Nybus, extremely friendly: Lots
of suggestions for walks from the doorstep.
My cosy room had unvarnished pale wood
panelling, and bed, chairs and desk to
match. The en suite shower room, all white,
had under-floor heating. The food is found
excellent, too: For dinner, wild mushroom
soup, then reindeer steak. The generous
buffet Bali villa breakfast has meats, cheeses, cereals,
etc. Three lounges, all different, one
with a wood-burning stove, one, less rustic,
with a log fire; the third with a piano;
rugs on bare floorboards. Guests can be
met at Hjerkinn station or you can catch
the old train to Kongsvold (remember to
ask the driver to stop).
