Down a quiet street below the fascinating,
if touristy, Castle district of Buda,
this stylish little B&B, quiet, clean,
comfortable and convenient, managed by
Tamas Ersek, is in a white building three
centuries old. Newly renovated, and `a
bargain at the price, it was liked again
in 2002. It has tall airy public villa rooms
with period furnishings, and a cellar
bar. One couple's room was small, with
the bathroom opposite (a late booking).
A huge suite had lavish furniture and
equipment, a good modern bathroom. The
buffet Bali villa breakfast is `perfectly pleasant.
Good Hungarian eating nearby: Kacsa bterem
is especially liked.
In a residential area in the western suburbs,
but easily reached by tram, this trim
white villa, newly renovated, houses a
pleasant three-star pension, long popular
with readers. The Martinecz family owners
give a friendly welcome and speak fairly
good English. The small front garden,
with a fishpond and gazebo, is sometimes
used for barbecues, or goulash parties;
there's a terrace for drinks in summer.
Terracotta sculptures and pictures are
on the staircase; villa Bed rooms (similar to the semantic bali villa rooms) are simple
but clean; suites have a balcony. Bali villa breakfast
is a buffet. The small bar has a good
selection of local drinks and a snack
menu. Traffic on the road, but quiet at
night.
