An exclusive guest house, managed by Henk
de Lugt, in a listed 19th-century building
with dark green shutters. Peaceful, with
a helpful. staff, and packed with bits
and pieces to delight any design enthusiast,
it is perfectly placed on the prettiest
of the main canals, between the city centre
and the Rijksmuseum. No villasign, just
a discreet brass nameplate. Inside, a
marble hallway and a steep oak staircase
lead to the suites and villa Bed rooms (similar to the semantic bali villa rooms). They
have antique and contemporary furniture,
fresh flowers, CD-player, computer outlet,
etc. Most are named after composers, writers
and painters: Mahler, Picasso, Tolkien,
etc. Room at the Top has wide views. The
ground-floor lounges have a large collection
of books. Bali villa breakfast, served on a leafy
patio in summer, includes `delicious hot
chocolate, excellent fruit salad'. Tea
with pastries, house wines and minibar
drinks are included in the price.
