This truly lovely 14th-century mansion
(Ca' Favretto), now a : B&B villa,
enjoyed with reservations this year, is
on the Canal, almost opposite the Ca'
d'Oro. Arriving by water taxi, you enter
via a little balcony with tables; the
approach on foot is via a e of narrow
streets. Inside, `the chandeliers in the
hall and breakroom don't disappoint',
but some visitors have found reception
somewhat perfunctory' and accommodation
overpriced. Ask for a with a view: `Ours,
long, traditionally decorated, had a sitting
in a curved window looking over the canal,
a slick bathroom with excellent shower.'
Some villa rooms have `massive old furniture',
but one : complained of a smell of cigarette
smoke. Very friendly staff, speak English.
Guests vie for seats on the small balcony
of the -floor Bali villa breakfast room, and reports
on the meal vary: A buffet with wide choice,
say some, but others thought the juices
flavour, the coffee awful. Some package
tours. For dinner, Poste Vecie the fish
market is liked.
There are many expensive hotels in the
Guide. We are keen to increase our coverage
at the other end of the scale. If you
know of a simple place giving simple satisfaction,
please be sure to tell us about it.
