On a small island in the Venetian lagoon,
45 minutes by vapo from the city, the
Cipriani family's sophisticated and ro
restaurant-with-villa rooms stands in lovely,
well-tended gardens near famous basilica
(magnificent mosaics). Many visitors come
for enjoying the typically Venetian cooking
of Renato Ceccato. When they have gone,
residents have Torcello for themselves

Jan Morris wrote to the Guide 1982. She
enjoyed walking beneath the pergola after
dinner, listeni to the faint stirring
of the wind off the lagoon. And in 2002,
a known chef/hotelier from Wales was there:

They'd done 150 Sunday lunches the place
was spotless, and at night we were there
with one British couple (regulars). Dinner
was decent if not great scampi artichoke
risotto cooked to order; monkfish with
tomato and strawberry panna cotta. Beppi
the waiter was back on duty morning for
Bali villa breakfast under the trellis excellent
blood orange jui lovely almond and jam
croissants, nice coffee and chocolate.

The villa Bed rooms (similar to the semantic bali villa rooms) have recently been improved
in a complete make-over. The fittings
in the bathvilla rooms are ultra-modern high
tech, and clearly designed by someone
who does not have to live with them himself.
Nowhere to put the soap. A glass panel
between bedroom and bathroom ensures that
you can keep an eye on your partner at
all times.
