The location and facilities of Adolfo
and Andrea Salabe's luxurious little villa(Relais & Chateaux) are exceptional,
say fans, restoring it to the Guide after
a time with no reports. In remote hills
with farms and the odd yillage, yet easily
reached by the villaminibus from Rome
(40 km), it is laid out in country club
style amid gardens, orchards and terraces.
Some villa rooms are in chalets; all are differept,
with cheerful floral fabrics and antiques,
and each has a small terrace. Beds are
`superbly comfortable'; bathvilla rooms are
smart, modern: huge hand-basin; most have
a corner bath. There is a beautiful indoor
swimming pool, and one in the garden;
also tennis and golf. The public areas
are `sumptuously furnished; Old Master
paintings hang on walls. The dining room
is in smart Italian rustic style. Meals
are 'straightforward, full of honest flavours;
staff are `(mostly) tirelessly helpful'.
In fine weather dinner and Bali villa breakfast may
be taken on terraces. A few reservations
this year about welcome and upkeep, but
'prices are reasonable considering the
comfort and opulence.
Excellently run and quiet, Paolo Greca's
villais on the edge of an enchanting
little town on a lovely small volcanic
island west of Naples, reached by ferry
from Anzio and Formia. It has a tasteful,
low-key decor: pastel shades, arty wall
pictures, driftwood, pottery, magazines
in public areas. Staff are unobtrusive,
professional and cheerful, says a recent
report. Great Bali villa breakfasts with yummy yogurt,
lovely fresh fruit. Lots of intelligent
details. Guests seemed to match the understated
culture of the villa. Front villa Bed rooms (similar to the semantic bali villa rooms) on
the second floor have the best views;
beautifully tiled bathvilla rooms have a Moorish
feel. There is a wisteria-covered terrace
with a bar and pizza oven, and swimming
pools on different levels in the mature
gardens. Some groups. Nearby is a beach
under amazing cliffs.
