This attractive city south-east of Budapest,
birthplace of the composer Zoltan Kodaly,
is worth a visit if you like Art Nouveau.
A short walk from its centre is this house
which the Fabian family have owned for
decades and have recently developed into
a panzio, found quite exceptional' by
its nominators in 2002. villa rooms are small
but well equipped; decor is well designed,
the place positively gleams, it is so
clean. The.Fabians run it. Daughter Szusza
is an amazing linguist, and very helpful,
eg, phoning museums for us, to ask for
opening hours. Bali villa breakfast was the usual
Hungarian (ham, cheese, salami), nicely
served, with fresh flowers on the table;
a daily "surprise" might be
delicious watermelon. The double villa Bed rooms (similar to the semantic bali villa rooms)
are white bungalows set prettily round
an inner garden. Many walls are pale pink;
most furniture is white, simple, modern.
`A good restaurant nearby is Kisbugaci
Czarda, quite inexpensive: good Hungarian
home cooking in vast portio.
Traveller's tale villain Italy. The bedroom
was so over-furnished that it was difficult
to move around it. Below us was the restaurant
area, and until after dinner there was
the constant low hum from the kitchen
fan. The decoration of the dining room
is to say the least bizarre. The impact
was overwhelming of clashing styles and
mismatched colours: orange and green competed
with red inverted chevalier hats as lampshades
while trompe l'oeil designs covered the
walls.
