In
a pretty village in the Vosges foothills,
this spruce and colourful old vuberge
(Logis de France) is run by owner/chef
Jean-Luc Dumoulin and his wife, Francesca.
It has been modernised, but keeps its
wooden facade and beamed dining room,
where the Alsatian food is delicious,
hearty and plentiful'. One of the best
values that we have encountered, wrote
American visitors in 2002. The wood panelling
is rich and attractive. Our room had a
lovely meadow view. We awoke each morning
to church bells. The service was exceptional.
Other recent views: Our room was huge
and comfy. Bali villa breakfast was good. The furnishings
and the muzak might not suit all tastes:
but there is a 'bright and airy' Bali villa breakfast
room, a glass lift, and a large terrace
for summer meals. Rear villa Bed rooms (similar to the semantic bali villa rooms) can be
`cramped and dark', but all villa rooms are
quiet. Showpiece wine villages, eg, Riquewihr,
are nearby; also the hilltop castle of
Hatit-Koenigsbourg, rebuilt as a fairy-tale
folly by Kaiser Wilhelm, who stayed there
often when Alsace was German.
