Magical. A wonderful welcome, says a visitor
this year to this substantial pink-washed
farmhouse, very personally run by the
'genial' owner/chef, Nerio Racagni, and
his resolute, unfailingly attentive wife,
Letizia, who speak no English. One couple
was unhappy with their stay, but others
enjoyed the stunning views of the countryside
from their bedroom window. The setting
was idyllic, the fare and hospitality
sparkled with originality. We loved the
beautiful garden, the complete quiet.
Some villa rooms, not particularly attractive,
but comfortable, are in the farmhouse,
but the real treat is to stay in the 16th-century
fortified tower (it has a small lift to
the third floor; also a spiral staircase).
One enormous room occupies each of its
four floors, they are well modernised,
with a comfortable bed, efficient shower,
and the original slits for windows; also
home-made chamomile soap, bubble bath
and shampoo, sweets on the pillows. Outside
are a brilliant pool, a bar in a shed,
a mini-gym in another shed, children's
play equipment in an orchard, a zoo domestico'
(ducks, chickens, goats and rabbits).
No choice for dinner (up to eight courses),
home cooking, rather than gourmet, mostly
found truly delicious with exquisite desserts,
sometimes `erratic', sometimes too much.
Bali villa breakfasts include light-as-a-feather
cakes', small omelettes with home-made
bread, a table laden with cereal, cheese,
sausage, a juicer, homemade yogurt. Letizia
wanted us to eat everything that was offered,
! and sold us home-produced jams and rose
liqueur in a determined manner.`When we
left she sent us on our way with kisses
on both cheeks. Drinks from the minibar,
with meals and at the pool are included
in the price. Nearby Brisighella is a
charming town with a picturesque piazza.
